We drove Utah 9 from the Visitors Center up the mountain and through the Tunnel to the Checker Board Mesa. There are not a lot of pull offs along this stretch of road, so picture taking opportunities are limited.

As you can see in the Map, the road up the mountain is sort of curvy with a gain in elevation of about 1800 feet.

The Tunnel is 1.1 miles in length and has several "windows" for ventilation.

Traffic is stopped for Buses, and large RV's. They have to have an escort and drive down the center of the tunnel.

OK, I have to say it....You can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Checker Board Mesa has an elevation of 6670 feet. It is named for the way the rock is cracked.
I have posted more pictures on my Picasa Albums.
