We enter Death Valley on Thursday, April, 2.  It was a hot 90+ degree day.  By dusk, a light breeze came up and cooled things off.   I had looked at the weather forcast for the night and Friday and knew that we were going to have a wind/dust storm.  And WOW....what a storm.  Winds steady at 25 to 30 MPH with gust up to 50+ miles per hour.  We were lucky that we were headed straight into the wind.  Not a lot of rocking.  At times the sand and dust was so bad that you could only see a few hundred yards.

Today its all calm so we made a day trip from where we are staying in Stovepipe Wells to the Charcoal Kilns in Wildrose.

This is the campground that we are in.   The campground is actually at sea level.

We start our climb up to Wildrose at an elevation of about 2000 feet.

On the route up the mountain to Enigrant Pass, we pass by several interesting rock formations.

Margie and I think that this one may look like a Cobra's head.

We think that this one looks like a Ram's head.

This one is just pretty.....

We are at the top now.  Over a mile high.  Margie thinks it's cold....I think it's prefect.

Looking down into the valley before we climb back up to the 5000 foot level.   The last 2 miles of the road is gravel.

We made it.....

There are 10 kilns in a nice straight row.  I know....I only have 8.  It was hard to get the 10 without the angle being bad.

I have posted some more pictures of this trip in my Picasa Web Albums.  Small and a little larger.  Just click the link on
