Today we drove over to Padre Island to see what kind of impact Hurricane Gustav and Ike had done to the seashore.

On approach, there was little evidence of destruction.

After a brief stop at the Visitor's Center, we headed to the beach.   NO...We did not drive the whole
63 miles, but we did go a long way.

As soon a we got on the beach you could see that there was going to be a lot of debris.

This was one of the many floats that we saw.

And bottles.  I thought this one might have a note in it.   Then when I picked it up, I could see that
it was empty.   It was interesting that on the shoulder of the bottle just below the neck, was the word
"Magic".   I though, Huh...I'll open this and get me a Genie.   Nope....he wasn't in there.

I'm not a birder, so don't know all the names, but birds of all sorts were everywhere.

I believe these might be Pelicans.

It was sort of discouraging to see all the debris.   It will take a lot of work to clean it up.  I doubt
if the Park Service has the resources to do it.
