Zion-Mt Carmel Hwy.April 11, 2008
Today we drove the 26 mile round trip from the Springdale, UT entrance to Zion to the East entrance on SR 9. This is an awesome drive. There are only a few pull-outs, this really limits the picture taking opportunities.
I have posted more large and small pictures in "My Photos".

^This is the East entrance located on SR 9. The elevation is 5700'. From here it is 13 miles down to
the valley floor at Springdale, UT, elevation of 3920'

^The rock formations of the mountains are awesome.

^It's hard to see, but the white streak in the middle of the picture is water from the snow melt.

^About half way down, you have to go through a 1.1 mile tunnel. The oncoming traffic has been
stopped for the RV ahead to pass. Due to the tunnel being so narrow, large vehicles have to drive
the center of the tunnel.

^You see several trees growing out of unusual rock formations. Makes me wonder where the roots go
to get nutrients and water.

^This is called "Checkerboard Mesa" The top is 6670' in elevation.
