We rode the Royal Gorge Railroad today. It was a scenic 24 mile along side the Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge.  The Gorge is over one thousand feet deep in places.  The first train steamed through the Gorge on May 7, 1879.  The last schedules train was on July 27, 1967.  In November, 1957, I went through the Gorge on a train from Denver to Oakland, CA.  It was night time and I was not able to see the splendor of the Gorge.  Today, the Royal Gorge Railroad offers scenic tours through the Gorge several times a day.  On the opposite side of the river is the 70 plus years old remnants ofa redwood pipeline that supplied water to Cannon City.  The Arkansas river is a popular for white water rafting.
